For store owners

Online store with cash on delivery

The buyer orders online and pays upon delivery. A recorded order and money received are two separate events.

Set it up without missing a step

1

Agree terms with your courier

Check how the courier collects and remits payment, fees and returns. Cash on delivery is not the same as an online card payment.

2

Describe shipping

Set destinations, prices and delivery expectations. If the price depends on weight or address, do not promise a fixed figure your system cannot calculate.

3

Offer the method at checkout

The buyer should see cash on delivery and the total before confirming. The new order is pending, not prepaid.

4

Test from a phone

Check the address, phone number, amount, shipping, stock and order status. Mark it paid only once the courier confirms collection.

ℹ

Check your accounting obligations

How the courier collects and transfers money affects customer documents and accounting. Check your specific agreement and obligations with an accountant; a software checkbox does not decide the legal treatment.

After the order: the parcel and the message

Attach a tracking number to the order and check whether the parcel is delivered or returned. A newly placed order is not necessarily revenue: payment comes later and the buyer may reject the parcel.

Check that the buyer actually receives a confirmation. In Orb, buyer emails are sent only after the store owner connects their own sending account. Without it, an order can be recorded but no email goes out.

Common questions

  • Should a cash-on-delivery order be marked paid immediately?

No. The customer pays on delivery. Keep it pending until you have confirmation that the money was collected.

  • Can I also take card payments?

Yes, when your platform and merchant account are configured for it. Test the two methods separately; enabling cash on delivery does not enable cards.

Cash on delivery in Adstic Orb

Orb lets you enable cash on delivery, set a shipping price by country and manage orders alongside stock. This does not create a courier agreement or prove that a payment was received. Its Google Merchant product feed is a separate catalogue feature.
